Angela McHarrie is a West Australian artist whose practice spans sculpture, drawing and painting.
Through her works she takes what we know and tests its limits or shifts it to another less predictable dimension by using multiple references that invite us to draw on our own cognition and make our own meaning.
Precisely rendered forms present visual symbols for oppositions such as internal and external, concealment and exposure, light and shadow. Formally, her works reflect her interest in shape, contour, structure and space. A reduction of signs to their elemental presence is evident in her works, which also testify to her engagement with materials.
Angela holds a Bachelor of Art from Curtin University and an Advanced Diploma in Visual Art from the Central Institute of Technology. She has held several solo exhibitions and exhibited in numerous group shows both in WA and nationally. She has also completed a number of public art commissions, often collaborating with Tony and Ben Jones.
Angela has been involved with Sculpture at Bathers since its inception in 2013. In 2017 she also curated the exhibition and in 2020, she is both an exhibiting artist and exhibition coordinator.
