“I studied art at Perth Technical College and achieved the Diploma in Art Studies and the Diploma in Print Making. Picking up art history and technical skills here added momentum to my natural talent.
I taught drawing, painting, sculpture and framing to gifted students through the Ministry of Education. Later, I was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal for services to the University of Western Australia. I was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship in Physics at the University of Western Australia for my contribution to the Department.
Over my career I have won a number of awards for both painting and sculpture, notably the Cossack Art Awards sculpture prize in 1995, 1996, 1997. In 2000 I won the Cloncurry Art Award for painting, 2001 Mt Isa Mines Art Award for painting and in 2009 won the award at Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe.
I have exhibited in many countries outside Australia beginning at Gallery 97 in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong followed by invitations and participation in a number of Beijing Biennales. Subsequent to this I accepted invitations to exhibitions in Korea, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Indonesia and Malaysia.”

Most of my sculptures have an element of quirkiness. These fun pieces came about from an unusual personal brief. I made these small sculptures in the likeness of larger sculptures in which I generally work. They developed into an exciting project that has led me into making smaller sculptures of a large variety of imagery. I have discovered that ‘ridiculous’ is king. I make these sculptures in fabricated steel then paint them – generally in Verdigris.
